HISTORY SouthEast Lancaster Health Services (SELHS) is a community health center devoted to providing quality primary medical and dental care to all patients, regardless of their ability to pay. The origin of SELHS began in 1972 when the Free Clinic started as a part-time, walk-in clinic staffed by volunteers. The Free Clinic, which was located first on Strawberry Street, was later named the Lancaster Community Health Center and then the Spanish American Civic Association (SACA) Health Center. A full-time health center with paid staff was established in the area at the same time to serve medically underserved people. This facility, named the Lancaster Neighborhood Health Center, was located on the fourth floor of the Lancaster Neighborhood Center on Rockland Street. These two separate health centers merged in December 1980 to form SouthEast Lancaster Health Services, Inc. From 1980 until March 1996, SELHS was located on the fourth floor of the Lancaster Neighborhood Center. In March of 1996 SELHS moved to its current location, 625 South Duke Street. The expansion provided much needed space for staff to provide more services for the increasing number of people seeking our medical and dental care. The Center's main facility is equipped with fourteen medical exam rooms, six dental operatories (dental chairs), as well as space for wellness programs, a pharmacy, and patient parking. Our new facility at Bright Side Opportunities Center on Hershey Avenue is equipped with six medical exam rooms. |
